Waste Policy

Garden waste, explained.

Clear rules for how garden waste is handled, what it costs, and what we can and cannot take.

Garden waste removal is not automatically included in the booking price. When you select Rich Green waste removal, up to 120L of standard eligible green waste is included with your visit. Additional green waste is £15 per 300-litre bag. This page explains what qualifies, the options available, and any additional charges.

What happens to garden waste?

  • Gardeners will collect and organise all waste created during the booked service.
  • You can choose to keep the waste at your property for your own disposal.
  • When you select Rich Green waste removal during booking, up to 120L of standard eligible green waste is included at no extra charge.

Additional green waste charges

  • Additional standard eligible green waste is charged at £15 per 300-litre bag.
  • Up to five bags may normally be handled through the standard process where waste removal has been requested or approved.
  • If more than five bags are needed, you will be asked to approve the additional charge before any further waste is removed.
  • Unusually large quantities may require separate agreement and pricing.
  • The charge covers loading, transport, and lawful disposal.

What counts as standard green waste?

  • The £15 per 300-litre bag rate applies only to normal lightweight garden-maintenance material, including:
  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge and shrub trimmings
  • Weeds
  • Spent flowers and soft plant material
  • Small/light pruning cuttings and twigs that can reasonably be bagged
  • It does not cover every organic or outdoor material simply because it came from a garden.

Not included in the standard rate

  • The standard £15 per 300-litre bag rate and the 120L included allowance do NOT cover the following:
  • Soil, earth, or turf containing substantial soil
  • Rubble, concrete, bricks, stones, gravel, or paving
  • Construction or demolition waste
  • Fence panels, timber, or building materials
  • Plant pots, containers, or plastics
  • General household waste
  • Large branches, logs, tree trunks, or stumps
  • Other unusually heavy, bulky, or non-green material
  • Where Rich Green is able and legally permitted to remove other materials, they require separate assessment, agreement and pricing.

Soil is not standard green waste

  • Soil and earth are explicitly excluded from both the 120L included allowance and the £15 per 300-litre bag rate.
  • Turf containing substantial soil is also treated separately, not as ordinary lightweight bagged green waste.
  • Pricing 300L of soil as though it were 300L of grass or hedge clippings would not reflect the actual cost of removal.

Keeping waste at your property

  • You may choose to retain the waste for your own disposal.
  • Waste will be left in a reasonable location agreed with you, where practical.
  • You are then responsible for disposal.
  • Gardeners are not responsible for arranging council collections or external disposal services unless specifically agreed.

Access matters

  • Waste removal depends on safe access to the garden and vehicle.
  • Long carries, stairs, restricted access, or parking limitations may affect what can be removed within the booking.
  • Please include relevant access information when booking so we can plan accordingly.
